What is Cyclone Mocha? 

Cyclone Mocha is the first cyclonic storm of 2023 in the North Indian Ocean region. It has been named by Oman, as per the guidelines of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The cyclone is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the coastal areas of India, particularly Odisha and West Bengal.

When and where is Cyclone Mocha expected to hit? 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Cyclone Mocha, which is expected to hit India's east coast between May 8 and May 11, 2023. The IMD has also predicted that the cyclone is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 10, with wind speeds of up to 90 km/h.

Preparations by the Government 

The central and state governments have already started preparing for the upcoming cyclone. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed teams in the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal to conduct rescue and relief operations in case of any emergency. The authorities have also advised people living in the coastal areas to take necessary precautions and be prepared for any eventuality.

Impact of Cyclone Mocha 

The IMD has predicted that Cyclone Mocha may cause heavy rainfall, strong winds, and high tidal waves in the coastal areas. The cyclone is likely to impact the fishing industry and disrupt the transportation system in the affected areas.
